IBRA radio federation in Sweden.  Description of the project

The project aims at the scooling of producers for radio- and tv to acheive a greater knowledge and better skills in how to pass on knowledge and bring up attitudes about AIDS to their listeners. The leadership at IBRA collaboration partners in Africa will be strengthened through courses and mentoring. The prerequisites for self financing of the projects will be rised.
To make the work more efficient the leadership for each project need education.
The courses will be carried out in Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, The democratic republic of Kongo, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Somalia, Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mali and eventually in other countries in West Africa. In the project the payment of finnish personell that coordinates and plannes the courses is included.
GOAL: to improve the leadership skills, increase the preparedness to participate in the democratic process. By strengthening the leadership in these media projects the service to the general public will ge given more effectively in forms of better programs in radio and TV, and on cassettes and video. This concernes programmes that covers all parts of a persons live, spiritual, physical and social.
MEASURES: different workshops per region for the responsible producers at IBRA with focus at defining the local problems involved around AIDS, human rights and democracy. The development of a programme strategy for each production centre. Five workshops per week will be arranged and 2-3 weeks courses in leadership together with a period of 6-9 months of mentoring before a continuation course will be arranged. The courses will be arranged per region, for instance at 3 places in East Africa and in 2 places in West Africa. Mentoring will continue per e-mail and by phone.
RESULTS: the increase the general knowledge about AIDS, democracy and human rights. The strive is to change the listeners attitude and actions to protect themselves and others against AIDS and treat the infected and those close to them in a worthy manner.
The goal is that every IBRA partner will beocome totally independent financially. The project strengthens this possibility since a well educated leadership team can make plans and administer such plans in an effective manner and understand the rules of the economic game better.
